You would think you would get a lot done

Michelle and I were talking, and seeing that we are spending at least 23 hours in a room the size of a cruise ship cabin and the fact that Kate sleeps 99% of the time, you would think we would be doing things to pass the time.  Maybe some work, read, watch a movie....In reality we don't seem to do much at all - not that it is boring we just aren't doing anything.....Actually kind of nice.

During the first baby you are nervous that you know nothing so you read books, subscribe to daily website information feeds, attend "breast feeding for couples" etc.  The second time around you do nothing to prepare...and it shows.  As you can understand there are, say, anatomical differences between a boy and a girl.   With that in mind there are differences in how you care for them.  While I was changing Kate the nurse came up behind me and said "You haven't been shown how to do this have you?"...Nope......

Trey got to meet Kate yesterday - he is going to be a great big brother.  He said he is going to show her how to play trains, swim, and drive a trash truck.  He is taking to the new baby very well!

Trey calls her "Carrot Kate"

Finally confirmed that her eyes can be opened again

Brooke and Lumpy got married on Saturday - we couldn't make it so we celebrated in the room

Kate is naked?

If you were looking for pictures of the Duchess you are in the wrong place sick-o......  After about three and a half years the Farmer's are running it back with Kate Jude Farmer, born September 21 at 1:16pm.  She weighed in at a respectable 7lb 13oz and 19".  The name Kate is classic, we like it and it satisfies all of our requirements - one syllable (that is probably mine), and without seeing her you know if she is a boy or a girl.  Jude - came from watching the Olympics in London - Paul McCartney played his classic "Hey Jude."  Michelle being named after a Beatles song we thought, carries on tradition and we like it.  So since then we have been singing "Kate Jude!".  Good luck not doing that every time you hear Hey Jude....

The first day and a half of Kate's transition from living the life of a fish to human, involved a stint in the NICU.  She took one last gulp of liquid prior to coming out which made for a bit of difficulty breathing.  But all is good now and we are finally hanging out in the room together.

Here are some early pics....

Home and two weeks in...

Well on Wednesday Trey will be 3....weeks. Michelle and I have been figuring out the routine of raising a newborn with the help from the first half team (Michelle's parents) and the second half team (my parents). We have been on our own for the last few days and somehow have managed to survive. I have said before I am not the smartest person in the world (Ok I have never said that), but I know there are dumber people then Michelle and I who managed to raise a kid. Actually raising him has been a lot more fun than either of us thought it would be. I had to go back to work last week and it really sucked. (of course if anyone from Recall is reading this - I love Recall - you know - it's just the circumstance and all.)

The first week or so has been much easier with the help of our friends. The girls have coordinated bringing us dinner every night for 7 nights - promptly at 7 i might add. I think that has something to do with Miranda....

Michelle has been doing great recovering from the surgery. She has been getting around really well. She spends most of her day feeding the eating machine, but was able to leave the barracks for a few hours today. She is natural mother - I am very impressed and proud.

We appreciate all of you following along and wishing us well. Will try and keep this going for awhile.

As many monogrammed clothes as he wears, it wouldn't surprise me if he starts referring to himself in the third person..."Trey is hungry...Trey wants lunch"

One of my biggest fears was that Trey would cry and never stop...there is a solution that never fails

This is just flat out cool....I stole this from a DVD i watched in "Breast feeding for couples" - yes you read that right

The first bath - needless to say he is not a fan

Trey had many photo shoots with the first half team and produced some great pics...but this one may be crossing the line...is 3 weeks too young to lose your "man card"

Zip up Hoodie.....what, what!

and matching kicks!

Since nobody wants to have a kid while their friends are out partying.....

In the spirit of college football's national signing day - we will call this recruiting (Hi Justin!)

Sensory overload

Good news Java (the cat) likes Trey...when I say like I mean doesn't hate

The happy family!

It was fun and all... but we are out

Our last day in the hospital a few thoughts and pics.

It was very nice having people wait on us and to ensure Trey was taken care of, but it's time to try and figure this out on our own...of course "on our own" means having the Kipphuts' here for a week and then bringing in my parents - baby steps

Just the Trey of us...we can make it if we try

Yes my "focus on something" is staged

I know his mother is from Texas but this better not be a "Hook 'em Horns"

If you have ever seen shark week you may have seen the dude that can put sharks into tonic (a trance) by flipping them over and rubbing their nose - this is the Trey tonic position

Trey Tonic

I figured i might as well get him started on "MattDonalds early"

Thrilled to go home

It's important to match your jacket to the car seat

Random observations from the weekend...

Packing the bags
Apparently there are plenty of websites and books that tell you what you need to pack prior to delivery- bring a change of clothes for the baby to go home in, bring some DVD's to watch, etc. etc. but none of them prepare the guy for what to wear... Normally this is not an issue, but i am telling you if you remember one thing, it is to pack every single article of clothing you own - you will be wearing them all at the same time while you are in the Arctic tundra known as the delivery room.

Choose your stations wisely
Eventually while in the after delivery room or whatever its called, you will turn on the TV. Just know that the controller is chained to a nightstand and not convenient, hence the station never gets turned. Although the Quiznos Subs commercial from a few years back with those freakish rat looking things is still the worst commercial of all times, ESPN playing this 1000 times a day is forcing this one up the ranks

Five Dollar....Five Dollar FootLong!

The wood rectangle with two cushions a.k.a the husbands bed is actually not as bad as you would think

Gator Gameday!!!!

I have to admit I am a little nervous for the game..apparently Percy hurt his ankle in warm-ups

Watching Tebow warm-up...

Today is gameday...the mighty Gators looking to take on the Boomer Sooners ( I still can't get Billy Sims' "Boomer...Boomer...Boomer" from the heisman presentation out of my head...nobody is answering you - can somebody please revoke his privilege from attending those presentations - he single handily may prevent any Sooner from ever winning again.

Anyway Trey told me he is thinking Tebow needs to throw a jump pass to seal the game - we'll see if he knows what he's talking about.

Got Trey suited up early, then I broke the news to him...

What do you mean I'm not going to the game??? You pull something like this again and I am looking for a new Dad!

We had two visitors that told us the opportunity to watch THE Gator game on a sweet 19" flat screen was too much to pass up.

As everyone should know by now, the Gator's are once again National Champs twice in three years - It's tough to be us...humble in winning and in winning - needless to say it has been a great week in the Farmer household

Just after Tebow's Jump pass - the game is sealed. Trey you are smart!

Look he asked for his championship blanket...It wasn't my fault

Welcome Trey

The Beginning.....

At 12:21 A.M. on January 7th, Trey Michael Farmer arrived weighing in at 9lbs 15oz and 21 inches long. Amazingly he is a newborn. Could be a future Pee Wee Football linebacker (I want to keep my expectations in check). Although he did come into this world with Gator blue skin color - so maybe i can raise my expectations a little... For of all you that got us "newborn" clothes we thank you, but we don't have any use for them anymore....Needless to say Michelle is thankful that she gave up trying to deliver the "7 lb - 7.5lb est." baby Trey after two hours.

The first minute....

The Conehead does go away....

His foot barely fits on the page

Michelle and Trey are both doing well. Michelle is in recovery for the next few days, and Trey is hanging out in the room with us. I have already changed my first ever diaper (that was pretty) - and then i got the pleasure of changing my second ever diaper, two minutes later. We started the first feeding that we thought went fine, until Trey pressed the nurses call button and ordered a prime rib and baked potato...the boy can eat.

Not quite mirror images

Michelle is pondering whose kid that is...because surely that didn't just come out of her

Daddy and his boy!

As you can see Trey being as big as he is, is a little squished. That or his real father is Chinese. I don't really do blogs...but may over the next few days - we are in the hospital until Saturday or Sunday - and other than the Gator game should have some time on my hands.

Warm it up Trey...He's about to...literally
